2016 Internships

2016 Experience

The summer is typically viewed as downtime in the education environment but there was no downtime for the SA Works team and its network of employers, interns, educators and partner organizations. The SA Works team kicked off its Summer Jobs program in early June with orientation sessions providing tips to interns on how to build their brand, get the most out of their internship and develop their professional network. The interns consisted of high school students and recent high school graduates from over seven school districts and a charter school. The interns were placed in high demand industries across various sectors including IT, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing and logistics, among others, and were paid $8.50 – $13.00 per hour.

“The opportunity of having a high school intern has provided a mutual learning experience for both NuStar and our intern, Saffron. She’s already been exposed to the Engineering group and will soon move on to projects within our Graphics and I/S Departments. We are glad to be able to provide this real work experience and assist Saffron in better understanding her desired career path.”

– Carolyn Wallace – NuStar Energy

“It has been a pleasure as a recruiter to help place the nine SA Work interns in the various departments here at Methodist Healthcare Ministries.  We hope they valued the internship experience as much as we enjoyed mentoring them.”

–Julia Singer – H-E-B Intern

“The opportunity to work with customers was eventful. Whether it be over the phone or in person, I learned to exercise patience and treat each and every customer with the utmost respect; regardless of their personal disgruntled feelings toward our office.”

– Ruben Jimenez – Bexar County Intern

“I liked the organization and structure I had this summer. I never expected to like the getting up early being at work from 8:30am-5pm. It took some getting used to.”
